Opportunities to influence pain and inflammation in dental practice

For symptomatic and short-term treatment of pain conditions associated with dental pain, pain after dental procedures, as well as pain after surgical intervention, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are most often used in dental practice (1,2).

Antibiotics can also be prescribed for more severe inflammatory processes. The change in the microbiome, as a result of antibiotic therapy, is one of the reasons for adding a probiotic. Another reason is the additional anti-inflammatory effect that certain probiotic strains can have. Probiotics are foods and products containing significant numbers of viable organisms that alter the microflora of the host to produce beneficial health effects (2,3).

Pain in the oral cavity can also be the result of trauma to the mucous membrane from dental prostheses, aphthae appearance and stomatitis. In these conditions, it is appropriate to use local antiseptics with antibacterial and antiviral activity.

In the presentation will be considered some of the pain conditions and possible therapeutic schemes to influence them.
