Development of Approaches in Ensuring Dental Health

Technological advancements over the past decades have significantly influenced the development of medicine. These changes have transformed working conditions and the perception of the workplace. People's views and demands have also evolved due to the unlimited access to information.

Human needs, including health-related needs, have shifted, and demographic characteristics are different. Special attention should be given to changes in the understanding of aesthetics. For instance, while toothache was considered almost a normal condition 60 years ago, today, the perception of red and white aesthetics determines success in dental health.

The introduction of new technologies, particularly digitalization across all fields of dentistry, has altered the nature of the profession. These advancements improve the quality of treatment but also impact its cost.

In this presentation, I will analyze the development of dentistry in Bulgaria, examine current trends, and share my vision for the future.

Prof. Boiko Bonev, Phd

Prof. Dr. Boyko Kostov Bonev, PhD, was born in Targovishte in 1974. He graduated in Dental Medicine in 1998 from the Faculty of Dental Medicine at the Medical University of Sofia. Since 2000, he has been working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of "Dental Public Health" at FDM-Sofia. He specialized in the Department of "Social Medicine" at MU-Sofia and obtained a specialty in "Social Medicine and Health Management" in 2004, a specialty in "General Dental Medicine" in 2007, and in 2024, he acquired a specialty in "Dental Implantology."

 

In 2013, he received a PhD degree after successfully defending his dissertation on 'Dental Health and Quality of Life of People Over 20 Years of Age in the Republic of Bulgaria' at the Faculty of Dental Medicine, Medical University of Sofia.

 

In March 2006, he was appointed Senior Assistant Professor, and in 2011, he became Chief Assistant Professor. In 2015, he was elected Associate Professor in the Department of Dental Public Health, and since July 2023, he has held the title of Professor in the same department.

 

Since December 2021, Prof. Dr. Boyko Kostov Bonev, PhD, has been the Head of the Department of Dental Public Health at FDM-Sofia.

On July 10, 2024, he was elected Dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine at MU-Sofia.

 

Prof. Bonev is the author of more than 80 scientific publications and has been cited over 90 times.
