To keep or to extract - the modern dilemma

In modern clinical practice, treatment protocols are promoted that postulate preventive tooth extraction for the needs of dental treatment. The criteria for determining the indications for these extractions are often not well defined, and in some cases contradictory between different treatment protocols. This situation presents the dentist with a difficult choice to assess the possibility of preserving the natural teeth of his patients.

The presentation is focused on the possibilities to ensure the preservation of the natural teeth of patients with severe periodontal diseases. Modern methods of regenerative periodontal therapy will be presented, their indications and limitations. The indications for determining teeth as irrational for treatment and the possibility of the mucogingival approach in periodontal surgery to support implantological treatment will be discussed.

Knowledge and skills that the presentation will provide:

1. Knowledge of the possibilities and indications for regenerative periodontal therapy.

2. Skills for making clinical decisions for choosing an approach for periodontal regeneration.

3. Knowledge of the indications for tooth extraction, irrational for treatment.

4. Knowledge of the possibilities for applying the mucogingival approach in Dental Implantology.

5. Scheme of clinical decisions for tooth preservation or extraction.
