Digital conversion of the dental world

"Change is the only constant thing in life." This is what the Greek philosopher Heraclitus said around 500 BC. Could we consider this still valid today?

Technology has fundamentally transformed the dental world in recent decades in terms of new materials and equipment, protocols of choice, clinicians’ and dental technicians’ mindset, as well as final results and overall experience of patients in the dental office. Some innovations that are offered to us from the dental industry stand the test of time and become tools of choice for a given treatment, while other novelties emerge and disappear soon after. The risk of investing in dental equipment which subsequently would become just an expensive element in the corner of the dental office, is very real for owners of dental practices. It is even bigger for new types of technologies that have just been presented in the dental market for the first time and do not succeed in proving their clinical importance over time.

This for sure is not the case with digital technologies in dentistry and intraoral scanners. They have already been successfully applied for years optimizing the treatment process for both dental practitioners and their patients. This presentation will disclose Dr. Iva Dimcheva’s personal experience and point of view about the advantages and opportunities that digital impressions bring to daily dental practice. Dentophobia has no place in the modern world anymore. This space is now occupied by modern equipment that makes dentistry look beautiful, presents its options to patients in quite comprehensible ways, and brings to results that contribute to a world loaded with healthy happy smiling faces.

Dr. Iva Dimcheva

Dr. Iva Dimcheva graduates Dental Medicine at Medical University Sofia in 2013. She is mostly interested in prosthodontics, aesthetic and restorative dentistry. In 2014 she completed a 6-month individual training at the Department of Forensic Medicine at Medical University Sofia on the topic of the forensic aspects of dental trauma and people identification by teeth and teeth-receptive surfaces. In July 2018 she completed a II level master's degree in "Conservative and Aesthetic Dentistry" at the Università di Bologna, Italy, under the supervision of prof. Lorenzo Breschi. Being interested in digital dentistry, in 2019 she introduced the use of an intraoral scanner to her private practice. Dr. Dimcheva is a member of the Bulgarian Dental Association (BDA) and a delegate of the General Assembly of the BDA for the years 2014-2017, 2017-2021 and 2021-2024. Since 2012 she has been an author and editor in different dental journals with articles concerning the social life of dental practitioners as well as the clinical aspects of everyday practice. She is member of the Italian Academy of Prosthetic Dentistry (AIOP – Academia Italiana di Odontoiatria Protesica), the Italian Academy of Conservative and Restorative Dentistry (AIC – Academia Italiana di Odontoiatria Conservativa e Restaurativa), and the Digital Dentistry Society.
