Orthodontic management of dental or skeletal malocclusions requires skills and knowledge by the orthodontist and individualized treatment plan based on each patient’s specific needs. When treating our patients we aim for “ideal” results in order to achieve function, esthetics and stability. Orthodontists should focus on the following occlusal and esthetic factors: posterior alignment, alignment of marginal ridges, posterior bucco/lingual inclination, leveling of the curve of Spee, root angulations, occlusal relationship, occlusal contacts, anterior relationship, canine guidance, and proper anterior display. Treating our patients to excellent occlusion and esthetics is not always an easy task but it is something that we should always be striving for.
