Bioceramics in Endodontics

This lecture presents a critical analysis of the strategies for a hermetic seal of the root canal system, focusing on modern materials and methods of obturation.

Special attention is paid to the new generations of MTA-based bioceramics, their pharmacodynamics and mechanism in sealing and bioactivity. The problem-oriented lecture presents the indications and contraindications for the application of modern biomaterials, working equipment and specific additional tools and strategies facilitating practical work, both in routine endodontics and in difficult clinical situations: apical root resorptions in chronic periodontitis, lateral root resorptions from pressure, pathological internal and external resorptions with/without perforation of the root, acute trauma with a fracture of the root, treatment of errors in the course of endodontic treatment (perforations on the floor of the pulp chamber and root canal, external and internal transportation of apex, arteficial root canal, lack of healing upon endodontic retreatment).

The lecture presents algorithms for clinical work and improves the critical thinking of the dental practitioner for the choice of materials and methods of treatment in the field of conservative and micro-surgical endodontics.
