X-ray measurements of impacted teeth.

X-ray is essential for: the treatment plan; the choice of treatment methods; control and monitoring of treatment. The benefit-risk ratio should be considered when choosing an X-ray examination method. The principle of ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) - low dose of ionizing radiation, but providing adequate diagnostic information is required. The most commonly used imaging methods for impacted teeth are the Panoramic and Intraoral X-rays. They have a good informative value for determining the position of impacted teeth in the jaw, but have their limiting factors. Distortion and two-dimensionality of the image, the superposition of structures, often leads to misinterpretation of the image. These limiting factors are being overcome with Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT). We will present cases from the practice with impacted teeth, where different radiometric analyses are applied. They are made on both conventional methods and imaging after a CBCT. This could help dental practitioners in choosing the type of study, as well as for interpreting the images.
