PERIO DIAGNOSTICS AND THERAPY BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER ORTHO TREATMENT

Periodontal examination before orthodontic treatment is very important. Mucogingival conditions, bone defects and periodontal diagnosis should be taken into consideration in the decision-making process. Interdisciplinary evaluation by the periodontist and the orthodontist is necessary in order to prevent periodontal problems and complications of existing problems. Orthodontic forces should be balanced/reduced based on the remaining attachment level. In case of secondary tooth migration any orthodontic treatment should be considered only after achieving periodontal health. These malpositions are often associated with intraosseous lesions which are indicated for regenerative procedures. Biological healing after GTR is similar to bone remodeling during orthodontic treatment. Therefore, only interdisciplinary approach can provide optimal clinical result. Adequate perio diagnostic and therapy before, during and after ortho treatment can guarantee long-term clinical success and stability.
